Cheshire East Governor Training – Planning for Sustainability

Time:
-
Venue:
Location:
Calendar:

Places are available on our live, online ‘Planning for Sustainability in Schools’ training on Thursday 25 June 2026, 6:00pm – 8:00pm via Zoom.
The DfE states that: ‘by 2025, all education settings will have nominated a sustainability lead and put in place a climate action plan.’
As key decision makers, governors/trustees are expected to support and drive their setting’s sustainable activity. Green initiatives not only help the environment but can often benefit the school’s budget.
Led by Liz Newbon, a local DfE Climate Ambassador, this session will provide an overview of the DfE sustainability and climate change strategy, offer guidance on developing a climate action plan, alongside ideas for embedding sustainability across different areas of school life and considers the role of a Sustainability Link Governor.
Please consider whether this training would be valuable for members of your board to attend.
For further details, or to book your place, please go to the ‘Training’ tab in GovernorHub or email schoolgovernance@cheshireeast.gov.uk
This course is free to schools and academies that have purchased CPD Training and Development for Governors via ChESS Hub.

GOVERNOR TRAINING – Places are available on our ‘Disadvantaged: Introduction to RADY’ training for governors on Thursday 18 June 2026, 6:00 – 7:00pm via MS Teams.
Raising the Attainment of Disadvantaged Youngsters (RADY) is a programme being rolled out to schools across England and Wales, with 40 Cheshire East schools enrolled to date. RADY is a long-term hearts and minds approach, aiming to help schools realise the untapped potential of our disadvantaged learners.
This session is designed to help governors/trustees understand the RADY principles within Cheshire East. It also aims to give an overview of its approach, with examples from local
schools and provide some questions around disadvantage which delegates can take back to their school, regardless of whether they are currently part of the programme or not.

Calendar:

Places are available on our ‘Complaints: A Governor’s Guide’ on Wednesday 17 June 2026, 6:00pm – 8:00pm via MS Teams.
In recent years, many schools have experienced a significant rise in the number and the complexity of complaints received. Whilst handling complaints can be challenging, mishandling them can potentially cause even more difficulty and stress.
Therefore, this session will consider how governors should be involved in dealing with complaints, including the legal framework, the school’s complaints procedure and best practice around how complaint panels should be conducted.
The training will be delivered by our School Governance & Liaison team, including the Senior Officer responsible for responding to Ofsted complaints on behalf of the local authority, and a Senior Clerk with experience of investigating school complaints and arranging governor complaint panels.
Please consider whether this training would be valuable for members of your board to attend.
